The Poet's Dog from Newbery Medal-winning author Patricia MacLachlan is a poignant story about two children, a poet, and a dog and how they help each other survive loss and recapture love.

A poignant, heartwarming story about love, grief, and friendship. When a snow storm strands two young kids, the poet's dog, Teddy finds them, and recuses them. What unfolds is a beautiful story told from Teddy's point of view. I love how the bond we can have with dogs was illustrated in this story. What I was not excepting to happen was to get a little teary eyed at the end. While this is written for beginning readers 6 years and old, this is a story older readers will find magical, and moving all at the same time. I absolutely love this book's cover.

  1. Oh, this cover is pretty. I love it. Sigh. Too many gorgeous covers, haha :) Yay for written from the point of view of the dog. <3

I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves. ~ Anna Quindlen

Good children's literature appeals not only to
the child in the adult, but to the adult in the child.
